ABOUT THE ARTIST

Lakshmi Shankarreddy

Studio and Plein Air, Daily Painter, Artist & Art Educator
San Francisco Bay Area

Artist, in her own words

“Art has always been my passion and I love painting. Art continues to sustain my creative spirit and positive attitude towards life.  I am drawn to light, color, texture, shapes and depiction of emotions. To me, it is a world of its own.”

Born and raised in India and currently living in USA, Lakshmi Shankarreddy began her artistic pursuits at an young age, while making art. She was strongly encouraged to explore and pursue art by her parents ,both doctors who could see her passion for art from early days of her childhood.

Through learning of traditional techniques of art making, she realized that the simplicity of strokes allowed her to express herself better. Having exhibited her artworks both in India and USA, she continues to study, explore art, and has enhanced her artistic skills further in fine art at Stanford University, California as she believes learning is lifelong. Lakshmi is a self-styled artist who paints from her studios in San Francisco Bay Area, California and in Bengaluru, India. She also travels annually to paint en plein air with artists from around the world.

Lakshmi’s artistic career has spanned both sides of the Atlantic. Throughout her career, Lakshmi has been engaged in art exploration and learning. She has worked in a range of media and processes like oils, acrylics, watercolors, printmaking, sketching and sculpture. Eventually she came to love working in North Light which is cool and poetic, colors are rich and shadows luminous, and using color and light to create interest and focus. Each artwork paves the way to the next and is a stepping stone towards becoming a better artist.

As an art educator, she encourages her students to experiment with methods and materials in order to develop their own voice, style and facility. She has been conducting art workshops, art shows and art show fundraisers for non profit organizations through her project “Creating Art for a Good Cause”. Her work can be viewed here.
